Upadhye examines kagini in Vimalasuri's Paumacariya, where it means a cowrie at one place and a cakravartin's jewel at another. He collects the Desinamamala, Paia-sadda-mahannavo and Nayadhammakahao evidence and asks how one word came to carry both senses in Jaina literature.
