'अभिज्ञानशाकुन्तल' की बंगाली, मैथिली, काश्मीरी, देवनागरी और दाक्षिणात्य — पाँच वाचनाओं तथा शंकर, नरहरि, राघवभट्ट, काट्यवेम, घनश्याम आदि टीकाकारों के पाठ विदूषक की उक्तियों के आधार पर मिलाये गये हैं। पाठभेद रंगक्षमता, हास्यनिष्पत्ति और प्रादेशिक बोली (उन्दुर/मूषक) से उत्पन्न माने गये; अन्त में वंशवृक्ष दिया है। Collates the Vidusaka's speeches in Abhijnanasakuntala across the Bengali, Maithili, Kashmiri, Devanagari and southern recensions and ten commentaries (Sankara, Narahari, Raghavabhatta, Katyavema, Abhirama, Ghanasyama and others), ascribing variants to stage effect, comic sharpening and dialect words; offers a stemma, with Kashmir as the exchange centre.
