Shukla examines the paribhasas, the rules of interpretation, of Hemacandra's Siddhahema grammar. He sets out the component works a grammatical system needs, compares Hemacandra's set with the forty-eight paribhasas embedded in Panini's Astadhyayi and with Nagesa's Paribhasendusekhara, and measures how far Siddhahema is indebted to Panini.
