Kanakura, who has just translated the Tattvarthadhigamasutra into Japanese, examines how Umasvati classifies and synthesises matijnana in the sutra and his own bhasya. He finds redundancy among the twenty categorical concepts of chapter one and argues the author juxtaposed inherited formulae without sufficient critical readjustment.
