Kansara reads Dhanapala's Tilakamanjari with the vocabulary of modern fiction criticism. He sets the Sanskrit prose romance beside the medieval European romance described by W. P. Ker - unrestricted imagination, ornamental description, incident before character - and asks how far Dhanapala's narrative handling anticipates later technique.
