यह कहानी राजगृह के राजकुमार वारिषेण की है, जो गृहस्थ रहते हुए भी अष्टमी और चतुर्दशी की रात वन में ध्यान करते थे। एक बार रानी चेलना का बहुमूल्य मणिहार उनके पास पड़ा मिलने से दण्डपाल उन्हें चोर समझकर राजा श्रेणिक के सामने ले जाते हैं। कहानी दिखाती है कि सच्चा साधक घर में रहकर भी उसमें आसक्त नहीं होता।
