सूरजभानु वकील बताते हैं कि जैन अष्टमी-चतुर्दशी को हरी सब्ज़ी छोड़ते हैं पर उन्हें सुखाकर खाते हैं, और बड़े जीवों पर क्रूरता करते हुए स्थावर जीवों की दया का दावा करते हैं, जिससे अन्यमती उपहास करते हैं। वे शास्त्रों से अभक्ष्य, अहिंसाणुव्रत, भोगोपभोगपरिमाण व्रत और सचित्तत्याग प्रतिमा का स्वरूप तथा अनन्तकाय और प्रत्येक वनस्पति का भेद समझाते हैं।
