Hegde reads the four Atharvavedic hymns to Rātri, XIX.47-50, ascribed to the seer Gopatha. He shows them as more than a description of nature: the poet negotiates with the goddess of darkness, submitting to her while praising her moonlit beauty, and finds them richer than the Ṛgvedic references.
