N. L. Jain presents Jainism as sociological humanism condensed into three triads: non-violence, non-absolutism, non-possession; sweating, self-support, sameness; the three jewels. He traces their bearing on women's status, caste, vegetarianism, ecology and philosophy, and holds that the tradition's socialistic ethic turned individualistic in medieval times.
