लेखक बताते हैं कि जैनधर्म आरम्भ में जातिवाद का विरोधी था, पर समय के साथ जैन आचार्यों ने वर्ण-भेद को स्वीकार किया। जिनसेन के आदिपुराण में वर्णों की उत्पत्ति, अमितगति और जटासिंहनन्दी का जन्म-आधारित जाति का विरोध तथा सोमदेव के क्षत्रिय-कर्तव्य का विवेचन है। अन्त में जैन समाज से उपजातियों के भेद मिटाकर एकता स्थापित करने का आग्रह है।
