लेखक बताते हैं कि महावीर ने वर्ण को जन्म से नहीं, कर्म या आचरण से माना और सभी प्राणियों को धर्म का अधिकारी बनाया। भोगभूमि समाप्त होने पर ऋषभदेव ने असि, मसि, कृषि आदि षट्कर्मों के आधार पर क्षत्रिय, वैश्य और शूद्र वर्ण बनाए। उपजातियाँ कृत्रिम हैं; अतः जातिगत अभिमान छोड़कर अन्य लोगों को दीक्षित करने का आग्रह है।
