लाला हरदयालके इस लेखमें, जिसे नारायणप्रसाद अरोड़ाने अनूदित किया और 'चाँद' से उद्धृत किया गया है, प्रश्न है कि किसी जातिके जीवनका सार्वभौम सिद्धान्त क्या है। लेखक मानते हैं कि इतिहाससे यह नियम खोजा जा सकता है और जातीय इतिहासकी रक्षा, कथावाचकों तथा विश्वविद्यालयोंके इतिहासविदोंके माध्यमसे अतीतकी स्मृति बनाए रखनेको मूल उपाय बताते हैं।
