सम्पादकीय भूमिका खजुराहो को छतरपुर रियासत का प्राचीन नगर और जैनों का अतिशय क्षेत्र बताती है, जहाँ पच्चीस से अधिक कलापूर्ण जैन मन्दिर जीर्ण दशा में हैं। कविता में कवि मौन खड़े देवालयों से उनके गौरवपूर्ण अतीत, उन्हें गढ़ने वाले कलाकारों और वर्तमान उपेक्षा का कारण पूछता है और उन्हें भारत के शिल्प-कौशल का दर्पण कहता है।
