अज्ञेय का गद्यगीत, जो वर्षा की व्यर्थ आशा में खड़े मनुष्य को सम्बोधित है। कवि कहता है कि जिसे तुम काला मेघ समझ रहे हो वह जलती नगरी से उठता धुआँ है; उसमें बिजली नहीं, दीनों की आह चमक रही है और जलकण नहीं, आँसुओं का प्रवाह है। इस व्यर्थ आशा को छोड़कर कर्म के पथ पर बढ़ो।
