डॉ. के. आर. चन्द्र ने आचारांग के प्रथम अध्ययन का केवल भाषिक दृष्टि से पुनः संपादन कर प्राचीन अर्धमागधी रूप लौटाए हैं। चार मुद्रित संस्करणों, शीलांक की टीका तथा तेरहवीं-पन्द्रहवीं शती की हस्तप्रतियों के पाठभेद सूत्रवार दिए हैं; अनुस्वार, णकार और मध्यवर्ती व्यंजनों के आँकड़े भी हैं। K. Chandra's purely linguistic re-edition of the Acaranga's first adhyayana recovers archaic Ardhamagadhi word-forms: a sutra-wise concordance of orthographic variants from four printed editions, Silanka's commentary and thirteenth to fifteenth-century manuscripts, with statistics on nasals and intervocalic stops. Ten years' work on a tiny fraction of the canon.
