इस दूसरे लेखमें लेखक सात तत्त्व और नौ पदार्थकी दो परम्पराओंकी तुलना करते हैं। श्वेताम्बर आगमोंमें प्रायः नौ पदार्थोंकी परम्परा मिलती है, जबकि तत्त्वार्थसूत्रमें सात तत्त्व स्वीकार किए गए हैं। सूत्र, भाष्य और टीकाओंके प्रयोगों तथा पुण्य-पाप विषयक सूत्रोंके विवेचनसे वे सात तत्त्वकी मान्यताको दिगम्बर सम्प्रदायकी विशेषता सिद्ध करते हैं।
