डा० श्यामशंकर दीक्षित संस्कृत महाकाव्य की परम्परा में तेरहवीं-चौदहवीं शताब्दी के जैन संस्कृत महाकाव्यों का सर्वेक्षण करते हैं। हेमचन्द्र की प्रेरणा, वस्तुपाल जैसे आश्रयदाताओं की भूमिका, पाण्डित्य-प्रदर्शन और स्वान्तःसुखाय रचे काव्यों के भेद बताकर वे इस युग के महाकाव्यों की सूची देते हैं और ऐतिहासिक तथा चरितात्मक महाकाव्यों के सहज सौन्दर्य और महत्त्व को रेखांकित करते हैं।
