Malvania traces the story of Bharata and Bahubali from the Prakrit Padhamanuyoga and Vasudevahindi through the Avasyaka Niryukti and Curni to Ravisena's Padmacarita and Hemacandra's Trisastisalakapurusacarita, and explains why Bahubali, though no tirthankara, is worshipped and ritually anointed every twelve years at Sravanabelgola.
