यह लेख पं॰ सुखलाल के उमास्वाति-विषयक निबन्ध की आलोचना है, जिसमें 'वाचक' का अर्थ 'पूर्ववित्' नहीं माना गया था। तत्त्वार्थभाष्य की प्रशस्ति के आधार पर लेखक का तर्क है कि उमास्वाति के दीक्षागुरु ग्यारह अंगधारी थे जबकि दादागुरु और वाचनागुरु पूर्ववित् वाचक थे। निष्कर्ष है कि उमास्वाति वाचक थे, पर नागार्जुन वाले वाचकवंश के नहीं।
