1 Vedic Mitra is one of the few deities of Veda who received continuous attention even after RV. Vedic Mitra is known in the other mythologies viz., Indo-Iranian, Avestan etc. In Avesta Miora is a god of faithfulness while in RV, he is known for regulating people. He is thus described as Yatayatjjana (RV. 3.59).

Prabhakar traces the Vedic god Mitra beyond the Rgveda into the Yajurveda, chiefly the Vajasaneyi Samhita, where he is named some forty-six times and invoked at every sacrifice. Mitra injures none, is paired with Varuna, identified with earth, and compared with Avestan Mithra.
