यशपाल जैन सन् चालीस के आसपास कलकत्ता में बाबू छोटेलाल जैन से पहली भेंट और बाद की गहरी आत्मीयता का स्मरण करते हैं। धनी होकर भी निरभिमान, विद्वान होकर भी दम्भहीन बाबूजी ने उदयगिरि-खण्डगिरि को प्रकाश में लाने, वर्णी-स्मारक और बेलगछिया मन्दिर में योगदान दिया। अन्तिम भेंट और व्यक्तिगत रिक्तता का उल्लेख है।
