अर्धमागधी भाषा और आचार्य श्री हेमचन्द्र का प्राकृत व्याकरण

पू. आचार्य श्री हेमचन्द्र प्राकृत भाषाओं का व्याकरण 'अथ प्राकृतम्' ( 8.1.1) सूत्र से प्रारंभ करते हैं । व्याकरण के जो नियम दिये जा रहे हैं उनमें प्रवृत्ति, अप्रवृत्ति, विभाषा अन्यत् इत्यादि विविधता के कारण इस भाषा की विशेष लाक्षणिकताओं को बतलाने के लिए उन्होंने दूसरा ही सूत्र दिया है 'बहुलम् ' ( 8.1.2 )

चन्द्र दिखाते हैं कि हेमचन्द्र के प्राकृत व्याकरण में अर्धमागधी के लिए अलग सूत्र नहीं, केवल वृत्ति में बिखरे 'आर्ष' उल्लेख हैं। अकारांत पुल्लिंग प्रथमा का -ए, तथा सप्तमी-पंचमी की प्राचीन विभक्तियाँ सिद्ध करती हैं कि अर्धमागधी प्राचीनतम प्राकृत है। अंत में सम्पादन के पच्चीस नियम दिए गए हैं। Chandra shows that Hemacandra's Prakrit grammar treats Ardhamagadhi only through scattered arsa remarks in the vrtti, and that its older forms, the -e nominative singular and the historical locative and ablative endings, mark it the oldest Prakrit. He ends with twenty-five rules for editing Ardhamagadhi texts.
