कुलकर्णी की पुस्तक में अभिनवगुप्त के सौन्दर्यशास्त्र पर दस निबन्ध हैं — भाव, सात्त्विकभाव का द्विविध स्वरूप, रस का लौकिक-अलौकिक पक्ष और महिमभट्ट का काव्यानुमिति-सिद्धान्त। समीक्षक तपस्वी नन्दी इसे अभिनवभारती तथा लोचन में बिखरे मतों का पहला सुसंगत विवेचन मानते हैं, किन्तु भरत और महिम सम्बन्धी निष्कर्षों से असहमत हैं। V. M. Kulkarni's ten essays on Abhinavagupta — beauty, Bharata's bhava, the dual nature of sattvikabhava, rasa as laukika and alaukika, Mahimabhatta's kavyanumiti. Nandi calls it the first coherent account of views scattered through the Abhinavabharati and Locana, but disputes Kulkarni's reading of Bharata and of Mahima.
