Bhayani follows the act-of-truth motif through Śubhaśīlagaṇi's fifteenth-century Vikramacaritra, where a mango ripens as each speaker avows a hidden truth. He sets Draupadī's verses beside the Jain version in which Dvaipāyana and the lay couple Māṇḍavya and Gośā confess their own long self-deception.
